Bengaluru: Industries Minister Jagadish Shettar has forwarded a proposal for the formation of a ‘Vision Group’ to develop the State’s coastline, promote tourism and other economic and commercial activities.
The move comes after a request for such a group was made by members of the State unit of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) in a letter handed over to the minister at a conclave held in Mangaluru recently.
The signatories to the letter included the president of the FICCI state unit Ullas Kamath and 16 other industrialists from sectors such as medical education, fisheries, small industries, tourism, hospitality, real estate and FMCG.
In the letter the signatories had stated prioritising the following for comprehensive development in the coastal districts:
– Fisheries and tourism
– Religious and aqua tourism and more facilities for cruise ships
– Banking and education
The Vision Group will be formed after approval by the State government.
