Kolkata: The Visva Bharati University has started a project to post the memorabilia of Rabindranath Tagore as well as the landmark events associated with the premier institution on social media platforms. Officiating Vice Chancellor Sabuj Kali Sen today said the rare materials kept in the archive at Rabindra Bhavan of the Visva Bharati would be posted on social media as part of an effort to reach out to the poet’s followers spread all over the world.
“We will post rare items lying in our archive – like Tagore’s photos with luminaries, his voice clips, newspaper clippings about him and the Visva Bharati and likewise – on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube,” Sen said. To a question, if the move was prompted by the inability of Tagore lovers to make it to Santiniketan and the restricted visiting hours of the museum, he said, “Yes, that is another reason to enable more people to see the exhibits”.
“The HRD ministry had asked us to post the contents associated with Tagore and Visva Bharati, as well as the landmark events of the institution founded by the Bard. We are working on the project,” she said.
The university would also be posting lectures of important personalities at Visva Bharati till this date and various anniversaries like the recent 80th-year celebration of the Chinese language and culture centre at the Cheena Bhavan. To a question, Sen said, “Yes we will also post footage and details of festivals like Basanto Utsab (the traditional Spring Festival) and Poush Mela (the world famous congregation during winter) on the social network.
Registrar Sougata Chattopadhyay said Neelanjan Bandyopadhyay, special officer of Rabindra Bhavan, will be responsible for posting the contents on social media.
