Water supply plan; Rs 532 crore loan

Mangaluru: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has decided to provide a loan of Rs 532 crore assistance for the plan of water supply to four cities in Karnataka. Mangaluru, Kundapur, Puttur and Udupi are covered under this plan which aims to provide 24×7 water supply.
The ADB official release has stated that this grant may be used to improvement the basic facilities regarding cleanliness.
The ADB council had given its permission for the plan in 2014 according to which selected water basins would be developed to manage water supply to the city. The aim was to supply water to the city and spread of basic facilities regarding cleanliness and their modernization, efficiency in the usage of water, water resources plan and improvement in supervision.
This is the second phase loan. In the first phase, a loan of Rs 532 crore was provided for the supply of water and improvement of cleanliness in Byadgi, Davanagere and Harihara areas. Now, in relation to the 2nd phase, an agreement was provided on Tuesday. This plan will be helpful in providing continuous water supply to over 10 lakh people through pipelines and improve cleanliness as well as make the city local institutions efficient and responsible in the supply of water.
