Well-known Kudmi Konkani folk artiste Gopal Gowda no more

Mangaluru: Well-known Kudmi Konkani folk artiste M Gopal Gowda died at the age of 64 after suffering a cardiac arrest on Wednesday, October 2.

Gowda is well-known in the world of folklore and had rendered more than 200 performances across the country. Many of his research write-ups have appeared in Konkani and Kannada periodicals, research magazines and in textbooks.

He has been feted with several awards for his immense contribution for the promotion of Kudmi Konkani folk art including the prestigious Rajyostava Award conferred by Dakshina Kannada district administration in the year 2014, ‘Janapad Prashasti’in 2002 by the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Akademi and Mandd Sobhann Kalakar Puraskar in 2017
