WGSHA creates awareness during ‘Poshan Maah’

Manipal: Department of Dietetics and Applied Nutrition at Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, organized various events like Painting, Spot Photography and Health Chef Competitions for the students of the institution and MAHE to celebrate “Rashtriya Poshan Maah” the whole of this month. It is part of the Poshan Abhiyaan an initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, GOI.
The main focus of the department was to spread awareness in the community about five basic nutrition components during the first 1000 days of a child’s life, Anemia Mukt Bharat, WASH Sanitation and Hygiene, Diarrhoea and Paushtik Aahar.
With this aim, the faculty members of MSc DAN, Dr. Meenakshi Garg, Mrs. Pallavi Mahesh Shettigar, Mrs. Swathi Acharya and Mrs. Namratha N Pai along with student volunteers addressed children, mothers, caretakers and anganwadi workers at Sagari Nole Higer Primary School and Aanganwadi near Perampalli, on the concept of balanced diet using seasonal and locally available foods, importance of hygiene and sanitation for preventing onset of diseases and incorporating physical activity on a regular basis for overall wellbeing.
