Renowned writer and activist Patil Puttappa passed away at the age of 99 on Monday in Hubbali. Many politicians and activists saddened by his demise are mourning his death. But earlier, Patil Puttappa was mourned by mistake thrice by politicians on various occasions.
In 1990, former minister RV Deshpande issued a press release mourning the death of Patil Puttappa after he received false details, in Bengaluru. The error was later noticed by PTI and it alerted the media organizations.
Also, Former Prime Minister HD Devegowda had mourned the death of Patil Puttappa at a function.
On another occasion, on October 2, 2013, people observed a minute’s silence to pay homage to Patil Puttappa during the Gandhi Jayanthi programme at Karnataka University. But when enquired it was found that Patil Puttappa’s wife Indumati had passed away. The organizers then apologized for the blunder.
