Bengaluru: On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ” When will Kannada Diwas be celebrated in India?”
Taking to Twitter Kumaraswamy said, ” Today India is celebrating Hindi Divas, when will Kannada Diwas be celebrated in India Narendra Modi ji. In our constitution, Kannada and Hindi have equal status I hope everyone remembers it.”
Kumaraswamy’s comment came shortly after Union Home Minister Amit Shah made an appeal to unify India with the country’s most widely-spoken language – Hindi.
In his tweet, Amit Shah mentioned, “India is a country of many languages, and each language has its own significance, but it is necessary to have a common language that becomes the mark of India’s identity globally, ” hinting at having Hindi as a national language.
