‘Who is communal? Modi or Tipu’, asks netizen sets Twitter on fire

Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan is again trending on Twitter. However, this time around it has nothing to do with the birth anniversary celebrations or scrapping of history lessons on the erstwhile ruler albeit a ring that he supposedly wore at the time of his death.

It all started when a Twitter user questioned who is communal among Modi and Tipu while stating that the Muslim king wore a ring with the word ‘Ram’ inscribed on it but Modi refuses to wear a skull cap.

“Muslim King, Tipu Sultan used to wear a ring on which ‘Ram’ was inscribed, but Modi refuses to wear a skull cap. Who is communal ?,” tweeted Salman Nizami, a writer, politician associated with the Congress.

Notably the tweet was posted on the same day that PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Ram Mandir at UP’s Ayodha.

His tweet drew a barrage of comments from netizens and Tipu began trending on Twitter. Here are few of the tweets:

Meanwhile Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj also featured in the tweet war when a user said that the Maratha King too had looted Karnataka temples and killed Hindu leaders.

In the year 2015, Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan had asked the PM Modi to bring the ring, which he claimed is “preserved in Britain’s museum”, and show it to “those BJP activists who have been launching anti-Tipu Sultan stir.
