The net worth of Zhong Shanshan reached $58.7 billion on Wednesday, $2 billion more than Jack Ma
Nicknamed the ‘Lone Wolf’, the 66-year-old worked as a construction worker and newspaper reporter before starting his own business. After quitting journalism, he started several business projects in the 1990s.
He sold pills used to treat erectile dysfunction that were derived from turtle parts, which eventually came under regulatory scrutiny. Later, in 2000, he shifted to selling bottled-water. He has kept a low profile and made few public appearances.
Wang’s biggest asset is Wanda Commercial Management Group and his businesses include property development, cinemas and retail.
Zhong is now Asia’s second richest person, behind India’s Mukesh Ambani and 17th richest in the world.
