WHO lauds India’s committment in fighting COVID-19

The World Health Organisation has lauded India’s efforts in fighting the novel coronavirus pandemic that has already taken the lives of thousands of people in more than a hundred countries.
Indian public health apparatus has intensified efforts in containing the virus.
Hene Bekedam, WHO’s representative in India has stated: “The commitment from the Indian government and the Prime Minister’s Office has been enormous, very impressive. It is one of the reasons why India is still doing quite well. I am very impressed that everyone has been mobilised.”
As per the last count, about 125 people in the country are COVID-19 positive.
The central government too has initiated many moves in containing the spread of the virus by imposing travel bans to many countries across the world and also mandated compulsory quarantine of 14 days for people arriving from UAE, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait.
Additionally, people from Afghanistan, Philippines and Malaysia have been prohibited from travelling to India.
