Maddur: Why should Brahmins not become Chief Minister? Aren’t they citizens of India too?, asked the seer of the Udupi Pejawara Matha Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji on Monday.
He was speaking to the media after participating in the programs organized at the Srihole Anjaneya Swami temple here.
He attributed such statements to Brahmins being a “minority” in terms of numbers. “How many Brahmin MLAs are there in the state? How many Brahmins have been given tickets?” he sought to know.
There is no harm if a Brahmin becomes the Chief Minister, he said.
Using the reasoning that Gandhi was killed by a Brahmin to blame and target the entire community is not right, he added.
Caste-based statements unacceptable: MLA Raghupati Bhat
Udupi: Reacting to JDS chief H D Kumaraswamy’s controversial statements about the Brahmin community, MLA Raghupati Bhat said that the party with the majority in the elections will decide who should be the Chief Minister.
Kumaraswamy knows very well that BJP will win the absolute majority, he said, and added that BJP top brass will decide on the Chief Ministerial candidate.
He said that it is unfair to measure someone’s worth by the caste he belongs to. It is not right to make caste-based statements, he added.
