Belagavi: A woman killed her husband and dismembered his body after he allegedly tried to assault their daughter in Umarani village, Chikkodi, Belagavi district.
The deceased, Srimanth Itnale, was allegedly killed by his wife, Savitri Itnale (30), during the night.
According to police, Srimanth, in an inebriated state, initially forced himself on Savitri. When she resisted, he allegedly attempted to assault their daughter. Enraged, Savitri struck him on the head with a stone, leading to his death.
To dispose of the body, Savitri dismembered it, placed the remains in a barrel, and dumped it in a deserted area. She then cleaned the house, disposed of the murder weapon and blood-stained clothes in a well, and burned her own clothes used during the act.
The body was discovered in a field the following morning, prompting a police investigation. Initially, Savitri feigned ignorance but later confessed during questioning.
Savitri revealed that Srimanth regularly harassed her for money, forced her to engage in inappropriate relationships, and demanded a motorcycle. On the night of the incident, his assault on their daughter led her to commit the crime.
Savitri has been arrested, and further investigations are underway.
