Wild elephant dies after being hit by train

Sakleshpur: A wild elephant died on Monday, December 10 after it was hit by a train near Kakanamane village, under Bage grama panchayat limits, in the taluk.

It is gathered that the jumbo was been hit by the passenger train that was bound for Hassan from Sakleshpur.

The forest department officials informed that this might have been a lone tusker that had strayed in search for a female elephant when it met with the mishap. They further confirmed that this elephant this elephant did not belong to the herd that was frequently spotted in Alur and Sakleshpur region.

DCF Shivaram Babu, ACF Lingaraju and RFO Mohan visited the spot. 

The jumbo was cremated after the veterinarians conducted a post-mortem.
