Will ban imports of areca nut if Congress comes to power: J R Lobo

Mangaluru: The Congress on Saturday staged a protest against home minister Araga Jnanendra for his statement on areca nut growers.

The protest was held in front of the Mini Vidhana Soudha in Mangaluru.

Speaking on the occasion, Former MLA J.R. Lobo said,” Areca nut is being grown in around 16 districts of the state. The government has been importing areca nuts from many countries like Burma, and Bhutan which has led to a decrease in the price of areca nuts.  If Congress comes to power,  we will ban the imports of areca nut.”

Mangalore Block Congress President Prakash Salyan, Shalet Pinto, TK Sudhir, Udaya Kunder and others were present.
