A mob of villagers had entered her house and accused her of selling illicit liquor. They dragged her out of the house, tied her to a pole and beat her up. The people also claimed to have destroyed pots of home-brewn liquor.
When police rushed to the spot, the angry mob had a heated with them and even hurled stones at them. A villager and two policemen were injured due to the stone pelting. Later, the police managed to dissolve the crowd and admitted the woman to Belagavi district hospital.
The victim’s sister told the police that attack was due to unpaid loans. The family had taken hand loans of almost Rs. 50,000 from local money lenders and had failed to repay it. She claimed that it was the reason for beating her sister. She also said that the family used to sell liquor, but had given up the practice a few months ago.
