Woman coughs on food worth Rs 25.9 lakh and says she has Covid, gets arrested

A woman from Pennsylvania deliberately coughed on food worth $35,000 (Rs 25 lakhs) inside a supermarket and claimed she has coronavirus. She was then sentenced to two years in prison.

Margaret Ann Cirko was seen coughing and spitting on food at Gerrity’s Supermarket in Pennsylvania. Reports state that the incident took place in March of last year.

Cirko, while contaminating the food items at the store was heard yelling, “I have the virus, now you are all going to get sick.”

She was eventually thrown out of the store by security and tested negative for COVID-19 after being arrested.

She issued an apology during the trial and said she was drunk at the time of the incident.

Prosecutors were contemplating laying two felony counts of terrorist threats on her but they retracted after she pleaded guilty.

She was sentenced to 2 years of jail, with 8 years probation after release. She was also ordered to pay $30,000 to the supermarket.
