Ballia: A 38-year-old woman allegedly killed herself by consuming a poisonous substance on Sisotar village under the Sikandarpur police station area here, police said today.

Chanda and her two sons — Suraj (4) and Sandeep (2) — consumed the poisonous substance yesterday, Sikandarpur police station in-charge Anil Chandra Tiwari said.

The kids are in a critical condition and undergoing treatment, he added.

“Chanda died while her sons have been admitted to the district hospital and are in a critical condition. She took the extreme step fed up with household problems,” Tiwari said.

The body of the deceased was sent for postmortem, he added.
