Woman submits fake papers of son’s death to claim Rs 87 lac insurance

Bengaluru: The Yeshwantpura police are on the lookout for a woman who has been accused of submitting fake death certificate of her son to get Rs 87 lakh insurance claim.
As per a complaint filed by Prashanth, a sales manager at the private life insurance company, the woman Anju Kumar had taken a Rs 87.5 lakh insurance policy in her sons’ name in the year 2013. After having paid premium regularly till 2018, Anu approached the company in 2018 to claim the insured amount stating that her son had died. She also submitted necessary documents including proof of residence and a death certificate for processing of the claim.
It was during the routine cross-checking, before settling of claims, that the executive found that the accused did not reside at the address mentioned in the form. Further, when they contacted the government hospital which had issued the death certificate they learned that the hospital had not issued the certificate and it was a forged one.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case of cheating and forgery against Anju.
