In an effort to improve women’s safety and manage traffic accidents involving female drivers during the night, the city’s traffic division will now deploy female traffic police officers on night shifts. This initiative was announced by Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M.N. Anucheth.
Speaking to the media, Anucheth stated that each of the 50 traffic police stations across the city will have two female officers, totaling 100 female police personnel, working in shifts during the night.
The initiative aims to address incidents of harassment and accidents involving women during nighttime. At police stations, one female officer will assist women who come seeking justice, while the other will be assigned to duties such as accident site inspections, patrolling crowded areas, and assisting male traffic officers with drunk driving checks.
The decision to deploy female officers at night comes in response to a recent increase in traffic accidents caused by drunk driving over the past two months. M.N. Anucheth emphasized that this measure is intended to curb the rising number of such incidents.
