Work on 17 smart bus stop completed

Mangaluru: Smart City company’s MD Mohammed Nazeer has informed that of the 20 smart city bus stop work undertaken under the smart city initiative, work on 17 bus stops has almost completed.
Mr Nazeer was speaking giving information regarding the work on smart bus stops during the advisory committee meeting held at the DC office under the leadership of DC Sindhu on Saturday. He explained that the total 20 bus stops have been divided into A, B and C category. The A catageroy bus tops will be constructed at a total cost of Rs 21 lakh of which Rs 12 lakh will be used for the construction of the bus stop, Rs 6 lakh for the construction of an e-toilet and Rs 3 lakh will be set aside for the LCD display along with ICT facility. The B category and C category bus stops will be constructed at the cost of Rs Rs 15 lakh and Rs 12 lakh respectively. Since a few faults were identified in the previous bus stop design, the designs have been revised. The smart bus stops equipped with e-toilet are are being constructed at Circuit house, Pachanady and Shaktinagar.
Smart road work
Smart road work is in progress between A B Shetty circle and Clock Tower at Hampankatta. In the backdrop of the suggestion that the proposal of converting the stretch into a one-way be done only after the city bus-stand is relocated, it has been kept on hold. The decision has been taken to shift the present road divider, 1.8 meters towards Nehru Maidan and the road be widened towards the present bus stop location. Through this, a footpath of around 3 meters in width will be created where lie the bus stops currently.
Smart Pole
Under the first phase of the smart city initiative in the city, ‘Smart Pole’ is being installed at 15 different junctions in the city at the cost of Rs 5 lakh/pole.
All the smart poles will have 4 fixed cameras and 1 camera capable of movie 360 degrees. The cameras will be directly connected to the Smart City Command and Control Centre located at the city corporation. A request has come the police department demanding the installation of the smart poles at 66 junctions, explained Mr Nazeer.
The plan to develop the empty area at the premises of the DC office has been submitted to the technical committee. The proposal to develop Car Street and Venkataramana temple as a religious zone had been submitted to the Smart City council and has been approved. Tender has been called for the construction of an international standard swimming pool at Yemmekere. The process concerning the development of Kavoor and Gujjarakere lakes is in progress, he informed.
E-Smart School
In the plan to develop 13 government schools as E-Smart Schools under the smart city initiative, work on 2 such schools has been completed. Work on another two schools is in progress. Under the plan to install LED bulbs, around 10,058 LED bulbs have been installed at 27 government buildings. There is also report that around 40% of electricity usage has been saved at the locations where the LED bulbs have been installed. The tender has already been given for the construction of an underpass in front of the town hall at the cost of Rs 6 crore. Under the scheme to install roof top solar facility on government buildings, the system has been implemented on the roofs of the fisheries and ESI buildings. The work at town hall is in progress, he informed.
Central market
No response has been received from the private sector for the proposal for the reconstruction of the central market in the city through PPP model at the cost of Rs 145 crore. In this backdrop, decision has been taken to undertake the project at the cost of Rs 85 crore under the Smart City project and presently, it has been decided to be done in the PPP model. A few conditions contained in the previous plan will be modified post which it will be re-published. The structure will contain altogether 597 shops and stalls, he explained.
