Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government informed the High Cout that work on implementing the scheme for the removal solid waste stockpile that has accumulated in the landfill unit at Pachanady had statred after Chief Minister Basawarj Bommai gave his approval.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice, Ritu Raj Awasthi was hearing a PIL filed by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority following the 2019 disaster at Pachanady.
Additional advocate general Dhyan Chinnappa, who represented Mangalore City Corporation informed the court that Basavaraj Bommai had approved the project, with the commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) having proceeded to issue a letter on March 8 to the agency that has bagged the tender for the job.
It may be recalled that in September 2021, the court had been informed that a sum of Rs 73 crore had been sanctioned by the state government towards the project. The court took note of the delay in commencement of work, and the authorities concerned were taken to task for the lapse. The high court had reprimanded the apathetic attitude of all the authorities involved, including the state government, which was dubbed shocking.
