Belagavi: State government has decided to setup small airports within an aerial distance of 150 km from existing airports in Karnataka. According to the plans, small airports will be established for every aerial distance of 150 km in the state considering the existing airports in an attempt to promote domestic air travel, said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking at a function held to re-launch the services of upgraded Sambra airport in Belagavi on Thursday.
Karnataka has only 2 international airports in Bengaluru and Mangaluru while it has airports in Belagavi, Mysuru and Hubballi to cater the needs of the domestic passengers. Efforts are on to establish small airports in Kalburgi, Shivamogga and Vijayapura to facilitate the domestic air travelers in the state, chief minister pointed out.
