World Asthma Day is observed on the first Tuesday of May and this year it falls on May 5.
This day is organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma, (GINA), a World Health Organization collaborative organization founded in 1993. This day is held to raise awareness of Asthma worldwide.
Various programmes are organized in order to spread awareness about Asthma and to recognise the struggles of people suffering from it. This day provides a platform to researchers, pharmacists, pulmonologists and other stakeholders to take actions and to address the rising prevalence of asthma in the world.
GINA has announced this year’s World Asthma Day theme, which is “Uncovering Asthma Misconceptions”. The theme provides a call to action to address common widely held myths and misconceptions concerning asthma that prevent persons with asthma from enjoying optimal benefit from the major advances in the management of this condition.
