September 2 every year is celebrated as World Coconut Day. Coconut is consumed all over the world, with its multipurpose nature making it stand out from the rest.

Coconut belongs to the drupe family and is mostly found in tropical countries. This fruit is celebrated the most in the Asian-pacific region.

World Coconut Day is celebrated mostly in Asian-Pacific countries by Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC). It is an intergovernmental organization that supervises and facilitates Asian-pacific states that produce coconut.

The first World Coconut Day was celebrated on 2 September 2009. The date September 2 was chosen as APCC was founded on that date.

“Building a Safe Inclusive Resilient and Sustainable Coconut Community Amid COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond,” is this years’ theme.
Presently, Indonesia is the top producer of Coconut, followed by India on the third position.
