World tourism day spotlight: Karnataka’s hidden cultural and natural wonders

Shakti Swaroop Sri Sugureshwar Swami:
Located in Devasoogur, Raichur district, the Sri Sugureshwar Swamy Temple is a significant religious site. It attracts lakhs of devotees who come to witness the grand Jodu Rathotsava. The temple has a rich history, associated with miracles and draws pilgrims not only from Karnataka but also from Andhra, Telangana, and Maharashtra. Special pujas are conducted during various festivals and occasions.
30 Rare Spots within 120 km of Kalaburagi:
Kalaburagi and its surroundings are steeped in history, having been ruled by various dynasties. There are 30 tourist spots within a 120 km radius, including Bahumani Fort, Shore (chor) Gumbaz, Jamia Masjid, Huff Gumbaz, Buddha Vihara, and more. Kalaburagi is well-connected by bus, train, and flight services.
Gavirangaswamy Hill:
Located in Singha Rajpura village, Channapatna taluk, the Gavirangaswamy Hill is a place of both environmental beauty and devotion. Legend has it that Rishisringa performed penance here, and devotees visit the temple dedicated to Rangaswamy. The hill offers a spiritual retreat, and devotees can witness the attractive Rangaswamy idol.
Garrison Cemetery British Graves:
In the land of Srirangapatna forts, Mandya district boasts many tourist spots. The Garrison Cemetery British Graves, located near the Bangalore-Mysore highway in Srirangapatna, is a poignant site. More than 2,000 graves of British soldiers who perished between 1800 and 1860 can be found here. Relatives of these soldiers still visit to pay their respects.
Birthplace of Machideva:
The Kolur area in Muddebihala Taluk, Vijayapur district, holds historical significance. It includes the burial place of Rama Raya, the last king of the Vijayanagar Empire, and several other notable sites like Talikote, Basaveshwara Dharmapatni Sharane Neelamma Samadhi Memorial, and irrigation projects.
Pushkarini, Santebennur:
Santebennur, in Channagiri taluk of Davangere district, offers a unique tourist destination. The Ramtheertha Pushkarini here is renowned for its size, design, and fountain pavilions. Sundara Pushkarini, locally known as “Honda,” is surrounded by minarets and inscriptions, providing a glimpse into the past.
Khanapur:
Khanapur taluk in Belgaum is a paradise for nature enthusiasts. It features mountain peaks, rivers, waterfalls, and abundant wildlife. Popular spots within 10-15 km include Kanakumbi, Halasi, Bhimgarh, and Vajrapoha waterfalls.
Sahasralinga:
Sahasralinga, situated within the Shalmala river, near Hulagola in Uttarkannada district, is famous for its thousands of lingas carved during the 12th century. Devotees flock here during Shivaratri and Sankranti to witness this unique sight.
Utsav Rock Garden:
The Utsav Rock Garden in Gotagodi, Shiggavi taluk, is an art center featuring thousands of sculptures depicting rural life in Uttara Karnataka. Visitors can also savor local dishes while exploring this unique tourist destination.
Mulbagilu Virupaksha Temple:
The Virupakshaswamy Temple in Virupakshi village, Mulbagilu taluk, Kolar district, harks back to the Vijayanagara era. It is known for its color-changing Shivalinga and hosts special pujas and festivals.
These hidden treasures of Karnataka offer a diverse range of experiences, from spirituality to history and natural beauty, making them perfect destinations for intrepid travelers.
