Yadgir: A woman has been arrested for killing her 5-month-old stepdaughter, police said.

The incident occurred in Babala village in Karnataka’s Yadgir district on August 30, police said on Friday.

The arrested woman, identified as Devamma, fed the infant milk laced with pesticide.

According to police, as Siddappa did not have children with his first wife Sridevi, he married Devamma and became parents to four children. Recently, Sridevi gave birth to a girl who was named Sangeetha.

Thinking that Sangeetha would get the share in the property, Devamma decided to finish her off and fed her milk laced with pesticide, leading to the infant’s death.

Vadagera police have taken Devamma into custody in connection with the case.
