Yakshagana Academy announces 2019 awardees list; Parthisubba Award for Ambatanaya Mudrady

Bengaluru: The Yakshagana Academy has announced the list of people to receive the Academy awards for 2019. A total of 19 people, including senior poet Ambatanaya Mudrady and Dr Chandrashekhar Damle, have been selected for this year’s awards.

Ambatanaya Mudrady, a senior Yakshagana lyricist has been selected for the Parthisubba Award. He was an accomplished Yakshagana ‘talamadale’ performer and served as a guest artist for two years at the Idugunji Mela. He has already been awarded the Rajyotsava Award in 2008 by the Government of Karnataka.

Yakshagana scholar Dr Chandrashekhar Damle, Dr Anandaram Upadhyay, Yakshagana artist and scholar Dr Ramakrishna Gundi, Mudalapaya Yakshagana artist and organizer KC Narayana, Moodalapaya Yakshagana expert Dr Chandru Kallenahalli has been selected for honorary awards.

Yakshagana musician Nallur Janardhana Achar, Yakshagan gurus and performers Ubaradka Umesh Shetty, Senior Bhagavath Kurita Ganapati Shastri, artists Argodu Mohan Das Shenoy, Mahmoud Gouz, Mururu Ramachandra Hegde, Yakshagana musician M N Hegde Halavalli and performers Yakshagana Haradi Sarvottama Ganiga, AG Ashwath Narayan have been selected for Yakshasiri Annual Award.

In the awards for books category “Yakshagana Veeranjaneya Vaibhava” by Hostota Manjunath Bhagavata, “Agari Marga” by Krishnaprakash Ulitaya and “Yakshagana Bailata – Ondu Adhyayana” by Dr Chikanna Yennekatte have been selected.
