Yakshagana artiste Cherkadi Kamalaksha Prabhu passes away

Manipal: Aryabhata Award recipient and Yakshagana artiste Cherkadi Kamalaksha Prabhu (59) passed away on November 18 at a private hospital in the city due to illness.
Prabhu, who spearheaded the Balamitra Yakshagana Mandali in Saralebettu, dedicated his life to fostering a love for Yakshagana among children. Under his leadership, children’s Yakshagana performances were staged across India in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru and internationally in countries like South Africa and Dubai.
Recently, Prabhu took a Yakshagana troupe to Ayodhya, where they performed for the first time at the Shri Ram Mandir. Pejawar Seer honored him there.
Prabhu had served in the ophthalmology department of KMC Hospital and had recently retired. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
