Mangaluru: The 29th edition of “Polali Yakshotsava-2024,” organised under the patronage of Yakshakala Polali, is set to take place on October 5 at the Polali Temple Rajangana.
This year, the prestigious Polali Yakshotsava award will be presented to renowned scholar Dr. M. Prabhakar Joshi.
Other notable artists such as Arthadhari Shambhu Sharma Vitla, Surendra Malli Gurupura, K.H. Dasappa Rai, Sadashiva Kulal Venoor, Sridhar Aithal, Raviraj Bhat Paneyal, Haluvali Ganesh Bhat, Dinesh Shetty Kavalakatte, Ravishankar Valakunja, Madhav Bangera Kolthmajal, and Guruprasad Bolinjadka will be honoured at the event.
Additionally, Sri Durga Children’s Mela, Kateel, and Vinayak Yakshakala Foundation, Kerekadu, will receive special recognition.
A tribute will be paid to the recently deceased Subrahmanya Dhareswara, Peruvayi Narayana Shetty, Kumble Sridhar Rao, and Gangadhara Jogi Puttur during the festival.
The festival will feature a Yakshagana performance titled “Kachara Maaldi,” directed by Dinesh Ammanaya at 5 PM. The grand event will continue into the night with the “Bharataratna” episode at 10 PM. Around 90 artists, including 22 famous Himmela performers and 67 Vesadharis from the Tenku Thittu style, will participate, making it a spectacular event for Yakshagana lovers.
