Bengaluru: A promising youthful footballer, Tejaswini Gowda, breathed her last because of wounds sustained in an accident in South Bengaluru on Sunday.

The 22-year-old, who represented Karnataka in the Senior Nationals in 2015, run over by a car on the KEB flyover in Banashankari third Stage. Tejaswini and her cousin Sachin were going on his bike when a white Maruti Swift Dzire, heading from the Nayandahalli Outer Ring Road towards the NCERT office, thumped down their bike. Sachin tumbled to one side, while Tejaswini fell onto the right, going under the wheels of the car. The car did not stop and hurried away not long after the mishap.

According to the police said Tejaswini was not wearing a helmet. A couple of bystanders called the police and surged the casualties to Prashanth Hospital, from where Tejaswini was moved to Sagar Hospital in Tilak Nagar. She succumbed to injuries around 5.40 pm. Her body was moved to the Victoria Hospital for autopsy, following which it was given over to her family.

The Banashankari traffic police have registered a case and are investigating.

Tejaswini started her football vocation when she was 14 at the Bangalore United Football Club under the tutelage of former national and state ladies’ mentor, Chitra Gangadhar.

Tejaswini had as of late completed her BE from the Rajarajeshwari College of Engineering and was recruited by a famous IT organization. Yet, that did not prevent her from seeking after football, as she would routinely prepare at the BUFC ground.

Tejaswini’s mortal remains were taken to Hassan, where the last rights will be performed.
