Mangaluru: the police investigating the murder of Anjana Vasista (22), daughter of Manjunath Y N from Tarikere in Chikkamagaluru district, who was found murdered at a paying guest facility behind KMC Hospital Attavar on Friday June 7 evening, have gathered additional information.

It is learnt that the victim had completed her MSc degree through an educational institution at Ujire and later come to the city on June 2, to attend banking examination training being held at a coaching centre here. She was accompanied by a man and both of them posed as a couple when seeking paying guest accommodation.

Apparently, two days after arriving here, the victim had returned back to her native place. Later, her companion contacted her over phone and convinced her to come back. Hence she arrived back to the city on Friday and was unfortunately found dead on the same evening.

The crime

Prima Facie appears to be that the man staying with her must have murdered her on Friday morning by strangling her using the cable TV wire for the TV. Once she had lost her life, the accused must have locked the front door and fled.

The finding

A maid who cleans the floor regularly found the door of the couple’s room to be locked the whole and grew suspicious. Based on her suspicion and no response from within the room, the door was forcefully broken open only to find the corpse of the lady on the bed.

It is learnt that Anjana’s family was proceeding with the matter of fixing her alliance with someone else and hence it is suspected to be the reason behind the act.

Forensic experts visit

Soon after finding of the corpse, the parents of the victim were informed and they swiftly arrived to the location. However, they refused to vacate the mortal remains from the paying guest accommodation and insisted on the arrival of forensic science experts to inspect the place of crime and collect any evidence before the removal of the corpse. In tune with their demand, the experts came and scrutinised the spot, following which the corpse was moved out.

According to the information gathered by the police, Anjana had been seen off by her father from Chikkamagaluru when she undertook her journey by bus on Friday. The victim had also informed her parents after reaching the city. Her parents had informed her that she was here to attend a training programme and that she would be staying at a PG.

The location has been visited by senior police officials. A case in this connection has been registered at Pandeshwar police station and further investigation is underway.
