Youth arrested for growing ganja in his backyard

Puttur: A youth was arrested by the police on charges of growing marijuana in his backyard in Puttur. The police also seized 225 gm of marijuana worth Rs 6,000. The arrested has been identified as Haris (32) as resident of Kodenkeri, Kodimbala in Puttur.
Acting on a tip-off, sub-inspector Nanda Kumar and team went near KSRTC bus stand in Nelyadi around 12:45 pm. There they saw a person sitting with a yellow bag and when he noticed the police, he tried to flee but was caught and arrested. Under interrogation, the accused revealed that he was possessing marijuana and was attempting to sell it. The accused also revealed that he was growing ganja in his backyard since past several months.
The police visited the spot and informed that the house of the accused was close to forest area and hence the illegal cultivation of marijuana went unnoticed.
Uppinangady police have registered a case under NDPS act in this regard.
