Chikkaballapur: The Zika virus has been detected in the Talakayalabetta region of Dibburahalli hobli, located in the Shidlaghat taluk of the district.
Zika virus, which recently emerged in Kerala, has now surfaced in Chikkaballapur district, situated on the border of Andhra Pradesh, sparking significant concern among the local population.
Health department officials uncovered the presence of the Zika virus after capturing and testing mosquitoes. Fortunately, according to Dr. SS Mahesh Kumar, the district health officer, there have been no reported cases of the virus spreading to people.
Currently, the health department’s team has established a camp in the surrounding villages, including Talakayalabetta, where the Zika virus was detected.
They are actively disseminating information about preventive measures and conducting door-to-door surveys and blood collection to mitigate the virus’s potential spread.
